Sainfoin & Wild Radish

This vintage herbarium sheet features two beautifully preserved plants collected from the Provençal countryside. On the left, a delicate specimen of Onobrychis viciifolia—commonly known as Sainfoin—shows its soft, rose-tinted blossom and graceful compound leaves. On the right, a slender sprig of Raphanus raphanistrum, the Wild Radish, displays its pale, veined petals and small seed pods.

Both plants remain secured with their original tape and annotated with handwritten French notes, offering a quiet glimpse into the botanist’s practice and the fieldwork traditions of a previous era. The warm aging of the paper, the gentle tones of each stem, and the honest marks of use all contribute to its charm.

This is a one-of-a-kind vintage botanical—not a reproduction—preserved just as it was originally studied. It stands beautifully on its own or as part of a gathered wall of herbarium pieces from the Herbier de Provence collection.
